The Seventh Tool for Increasing Effectiveness
Happy New Year and welcome back.
Are you energised and raring to go or suffering post holiday blues and lethargy? Most of us will be feeling the latter ....boring drudge, grey skies, early starts in the dark, missing loved ones. What's the difference between these individuals? If you are feeling like the former then I guarantee it is because you feel out of control. If you are excited and energised about 2010 I guarantee you feel in control of your life and dreams and on track for achieving them.

So....what is the seventh tool for increasing effectiveness? This is the last one and I am in a quandary. We really MUST have physical fitness (strong body = strong mind) on our list but as that is so obvious and will be covered in the 'Grab your future by the horns' programme, I am going to cover something a little more complex here.
The seventh tool is 'tear up the rules of the game' Yes, you heard it right. Leading is about being in front. There is nobody to follow and nobody to ask. If you think about it in the extreme - it isn't the reasonable woman or man that changes the world, it is the unreasonable one. Mother Theresa wasn't reasonable neither was Nelson Mandela or anybody else who ever made a difference to their workplace or the world. The reasonable person can always figure out why something can't be done and that's good and it's logical and it makes sense but the unreasonable person looks for the only way that it can be done. Failure isn't an option with this mindset. As Eddison allegedly said, "I have not failed 1,000 times. I have successfully discovered 1,000 ways to NOT make a light bulb."
I will go into more details on strategy for remaining responsible and professional whilst 'tearing up the rules of the game' in my next blog.
